ETTIE's 'Marty McFly' Is A Great Slice Of Sentimental Pop

The London-based alt-pop performer ettie released her latest bop 'Marty McFly' last month - a track that showcases the rising talent's prowess for creating a great pop song.

The English Literature graduate has created a great modern slice of music albeit with a retrospective slant. A throwback to the classic 90's movie 'Back To The Future', the premise is inviting but what of the song itself?

Well, ettie more than delivers with 'Marty McFly.' With a strong vocal opening and muted guitar, the song showcases her strong vocal range. With great use of dynamics leading to the chorus and with real emotion shining through in ettie's vocal, 'Marty McFly' is on the whole as catchy as it comes. With shades of Pale Waves, it's not unreasonable to think that with another couple of strong releases under her belt, ettie will be mentioned in the same breath as the Dirty Hit supremo's.

On a personal level, ettie came out in her early 20's; something that has obviously shaped her life and perspective. On this, she said: how the hell did I not know I was gay? There were so many signs! The jealousy that came when a best friend got a boyfriend who didn’t treat her right; saying just how lucky boys are to date women, and how sometimes I wish I was a boy so I could date women because they’re so beautiful. Like, girl, you can do that! I was just so deep in the closet that Narnia was closer than me coming out of it.

'Marty McFly' is an upbeat release with a tinge of yearning and sentimentality. ettie's contagious personality shines through in abundance. Highly recommended.
