OSM: Where and when did DAME form? Who is in the band and what do they play?

DAME started with just me songwriting on a guitar and playing at open mics. A student run record label ‘New Street Records’ approached me to release an EP, and so helped me pull a band together. The line up slightly changed and I actually found Jake (guitarist & producer) and Chapman (bassist) at music nights at the uni pub. Koot (drummer) plays with us regularly and has helped us with a lot of our production. - Shan

OSM: Your new single, ‘All Night’ is out now. What was the general songwriting process and are there any interesting stories around the recording?

Shan brought that song to the band just before our first tour at the end of 2018. It went down really well on that tour and has been a fave in the live set ever since! We went into Park Studios to start recording it and then finished it in lockdown, with Shan recording vocals at home and I (Jake) took on production duties. It’s lovely to have it out in the world! - Jake

OSM: From your point of view, what is the song about, what is its message?

The song is meant to evoke feelings of nostalgia, it was written about the golden days of uni. It’s about going on a night out and falling in love with a stranger, spending all night with them and then going separate ways. Being young wild and free ! - Shan

OSM: What challenges have you faced since launching the band?

Distance and time! We’re split across London and Birmingham so means we don’t get to hang out as much. - Shan

OSM: What are your plans for the year ahead?

We wanna get back into the studio this summer as we haven’t been into a proper recording studio since lockdown. We’d also like to work with some new people and new ideas; lockdown taught us to do it ourselves but now we can collaborate in person we wanna take advantage of that! - Jake

OSM: If you could change anything about the industry what would it be?

Streaming services and single culture. let’s go back to the old days of physical album releases! (I know we just released a single lol). Also the pressure to be reactive, it’s all about online content these days and feels like I constantly have to keep up with the new music trends. - Shan

OSM: If you could share the stage with another band or performer who would it be?

Phoenix would be ace - Jake
Absolutely not the fit but someone like chemical brothers would just be wicked, their live sets are amazing - Shan

OSM: Who are some of the main influences of your music?

Remi Wolf, Haim, MUNA, Everything Everything, Disclosure, Phoebe Bridgers, The 1975 - Jake

OSM: What do you enjoy most about being in a band?

Being able to hang out with your mates and get creative, and bonding with your band mates in a different way than you ever would to just meeting up at the pub. (Although we still love a beer at practice) - Shan

OSM: What songs are on your playlist right now, which songs are you into at the moment?

I’m off to primavera festival next week, so loads of charli xcx, dua lipa, the strokes, tame impala etc to get me excited!!! - Shan
