We recently had the pleasure of finding out more about Misery Kids and their latest release 'Without You'.
OSM: Where are Misery Kids from and who is in the band?
Misery Kids is from the UK, based in London and Bristol. Official members are Nic Matthews (vocals) and Alex Mcmain (guitar and vocals). The band is joined by sessions for live performances.
OSM: Your new single, ‘Without You’’, is out now. What was the general songwriting process and are there any interesting stories around the recording?
We wrote the initial demo at our friends studio. We then went down to Somerset for a writing session to rework our favourite batch of new ideas, ‘Without You’ made the cut and after a few tweaks on chord charges and chorus melodies we knew we had to record it.
OSM: From your point of view, what is the song about, what is its message?
The song is the embodiment of what we are trying to achieve in this band, taking from our rock past and our love for timeless 80s pop melodies and soundscapes. The song is for anyone who has had to battle with making the right decision.
OSM: What challenges have you faced since launching the band?
Being in an up and coming band comes with so many challenges. There’s a lot of amazing talent out there it can be hard to break through the noise. You have to be consistently releasing great new music and quality content to keep up the hype which can be tough with day job commitments and family life.
OSM: What are the plans for the year ahead for Misery Kids?
The band will be dropping a few more singles and videos in 2022 along with another UK tour TBC!
OSM: If you could change anything about the industry what would it be?
It can be incredibly cliquey and sadly a lot of incredible acts don’t get the deserved breaks if they’re not in the right circles.
OSM: If you could share the stage with another band or performer who would it be?
OSM: Who are some of the main influences of your music?
Michael Jackson, The Band Camino and The Maine.
OSM: What songs are on your playlist right now, which songs are you into at the moment?
The Ivy - Missing Out
The Summer Set - Teenagers
Charle Puth - Light Switch
