The Crooks Volume 1 is our Single Of The Week even if it isn’t strictly new material. A new two track release of acoustic and orchestral mixes of previously released songs In Time and She Walks Alone almost makes us thankful for a lockdown so bands have the time to put together releases like this. In Time is an anthem that should and will be closing arena gigs in due course and She Walks Alone is top tier music that is a sublime instant classic. The reworking here strip back the releases and only serve to make them more poignant. Without a doubt The Crooks are talented songwriters and a band waiting in the wings to be one of the most important of this generation.

Northern storytellers Mount Famine have a new single called Pulse (Out Now). It’s the bands second single after debut release Faith earlier this year. With echoes of The Killers and a contemporary nod to The Blossoms, this is an encouraging stab at synth indie pop. The verses are tuneful with pitch perfect vocals that build to a crashing bridge leading into a sing a long powerful chorus. Impressive work from this new band.. The Lotts release their debut EP “We Are The Lotts” next Friday (24th July). Recorded at the legendary Rockfield studios in Wales, the hardworking Warrington lads deliver five garage punk songs. The Title track opens with a punk rock riff and leads to screeching guitars. It’s a breath of fresh air. Dumb gives us crunchy open chords with a hint or REM (Monster era) while Mouth is more laid back. A band that has found their niche and does it well... Fendahlene’s new release High And Low And Back Again is more straightforward rock. Well produced, the song doesn’t break any moulds but if this is your thing it doesn’t have to either... South London’s Bleach Lab new release Sleep is pure dream pop. With its 80’s sound, Mazzy Star vocal and catchy hook this is a must listen release... Monkey Puzzle Tree is the quirkily named new one from C-Beem (released at the end of the month)..DDE’s EP Calm Before The Storm has that acoustic Noel Gallagher sound that a lot of bands recently have however some do it better than others and EP opener It’s Gonna Get Wild is a special song. Cherry Soul is more rock n roll and riff heavy that reminds of fellow new band and Our Sound favourites Kombat. I’m excited about this band and you should be too... The Station make their mainstream single release debut with I Say Hello, a Reytons channelling punk tinged track that holds promise for things to come from the Newbury based band..I’m giving You Up! By The Scenic Route..Is pop rock as it should be..Gravity Car are an indie-guitar base band who wear Pavement and The Lemonheads influences on their sleeve. Track Tidal Wave is a great place to start..This weeks band with the best name is Tropical Boyfriend Catalogue. New song Wasted On You is released on the 24th and an album is following later this year. The band continues to be unique and accessible at the same time and Wasted On You has inspired elements as well as the framework of a pop song..
