Australian electro-indie band, Methyl Ethel, are a group familiar with success; they’ve racked up millions of streams, been the recipients of multiple awards, and released 3 albums to critical acclaim.

Over the past few months, however, the group has been quiet; their last release was dropped last year and they were forced to abandon their planned tour due to the pandemic. Last week though saw the band mark their eagerly awaited return with the immediate new single 'Neon Cheap.

Created at the end of a particularly creative period for the band, the new track is an undoubted career highlight and features musical echoes of ELO and Talking Heads while also showcasing impressive poetic lyricism from the band’s centre piece, Jake Webb.

Webb has been instrumental in the group’s sound and has proven himself to be a master songwriter across the group’s three albums and three EPs to date. In 2019, the band dropped their album, ‘Triage’, which particularly pushed the band’s sound to new heights and showed them, and specifically Webb, to be key players on the global indie music scene. The record did however, mark a pause in the group’s releases as far as albums were concerned and it’s hoped by fans that the new single will double up as the starting gun for another bar-raising LP.

For us at Our Sound Music, it’s hoped that ’Neon Cheap’ will mark the arrival of the next wave for Methyl Ethel and an exciting year of musical development to come.
