We recently had the pleasure of speaking to Royal Blush about their debut EP.
Your debut EP, 'A Ways Away' is out now. How has the release been received by fans and critics so far?
It’s been a whirlwind of a release. We’ve received so much love and are soaking up every bit. Making and releasing music is extra special these days and we’re grateful to offer our two cents to the chaos.
Or favourite track on the EP is 'Cherry Cola', can you tell us a bit more about this particular song?
We love “Cherry Cola” too - So much so that we’ve released it twice! First as a demo a few years back, and now as track #3 on the EP. It’s one of our oldest songs, written by our guitarist Andrew, questioning the perspective of another life - an innocence met with a getaway car and nothing to lose! We had a blast poking and prodding this one over the years.
What was the writing process behind the songs on the EP, are they a collaborative effort?
Most of our songs stem from the practice space, and all are very collaborative! This project in particular was a fun challenge, as a lot of the final instrumental writing happened during the studio process with our newest member and producer Pat. He really opened our world to new paths on the tech side of the record!
What is your favourite song on the EP?
“Ballads in the Sky” will always hold a special place in our realm. Al wrote it about coping with the loss of her grandmother and we all found it relatable in our own lives. It was our first song back on the map in a couple of years and it felt so good to start a new page with a song so close to the heart!

Which other bands or artists influence your songwriting and sound?
This question has an ever-changing answer! Right now, we’ve been loving Amyl & the Sniffers, Ratboys, and Superheaven to name a few. But our classics that never get old are Paramore, The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac, Blondie… we could keep going but we’d be here all day!
How is the scene in the Jersey/NJ area? Are bands supportive of each other, do you have any shows coming up?
DONT SLEEP ON JERSEY CITY! The talent here, and across the Hudson is immense. We leave every bill we share inspired to the max! We’re stoked have a stretch of out-of-town shows in the making this July - look out PA, RI, & MA! But locally, you can find us at Ghost Hawk Brewery in NJ this August.
And finally, you must be really proud to release this debut EP - what are the future plans for Royal Blush as we head in to the second half of 2025?
Beyond! We’re really relishing in the moment of this milestone, but we’re also itching to crawl back into the studio… we’ve got work to do and plan to have more music coming to ears later this year as a part two to this debut. So stay tuned!
