Words: ROBIN MUMFORD
Out of the countless genres that flow through the musical ladder, pop is perhaps the most difficult to penetrate and make a name for yourself in. However, Jason Parker seems well-equipped to face the roadblocks and seek total pop domination. He is well known already for his catchy hooks, unique style, and captivating vocals.
With the release of ‘This Is My Year’, the Wellington-based Kiwi has underpinned an air of confidence that he is on the right path to prestige. Finding his feet in the form of the 2021 reboot of Popstars NZ, Jason has propelled himself into the spotlight after impressing the judges.
Since that show, which hoisted him into contention for eminence, he has released multiple singles, hosted Wellington music festival ‘Peachy Keen’, and opened for NZ hitmaker Paige.
‘This Is My Year’ is the second single from Jason’s debut EP ‘How To Be Lonely’. The track is an uptempo, empowering, summertime banger. You can hear Jason smiling through the hooks, announcing his claim on 2021.
He’s here, he’s queer, and this is most definitely his year.
'This Is My Year' is out now on all major streaming platforms.
