“Black and White” narrates the tale of two great friends who have the potential for romance yet no future as they are complete opposites, black and white. Retelling the familiar experience of having a friend who you adore but the differences between you prevents anything more than friends ever coming to fruition.
With the point of view of the woman being the focal point of the track and realising that her hopelessly romantic friend and her are too different to be a match, Emmy Law tells the story with the singer being pursued with the guy trying every line yet she refuses telling him it will never happen.
“Black and White” is filled with emotive and clean guitar tones and glowing synths which are bound together with a playful indie pop soundscape. Bringing Emmy’s dreamy sensibility to the forefront, Shane Becker, the New Jersey-based producer, worked remotely with Emmy to bring this track together after a mutual friend (Josh Bonanno) put them in touch.
With the single coming together remotely, this marked new territory for Emmy as she has always worked within the studio to bring new tracks together. Emmy recorded the vocals with Bonanno over Zoom finalise “Black and White”
