'This is Love & Heartache' is the latest album from Nick Cody and The Heartache and the ninth album release from Nick Cody. The Leeds-based artist and founder of Green Eyed Records, is a musician's musician. Drawing plaudits from others in the industry, Cody's output is noting short of phenomenal.
This album is his first all-electric effort and demonstrates the scope of the artists versatility and songwriting prowess. 'This Is Love and Heartache' is a collection of songs that takes the listener on a certain journey. The title track sits proudly at the end of the track listing and as such it is almost as if the other songs ascend from this captivating recording. Soulful, authentic and at times emotional (ok, a lot of the time), the album as a whole is a tremendous body of work. Part Americana, part folk, the blend here is perfect. Like all great songwriting, we have personal moments; Nick Cody has certainly bared his soul here.

The production, by producer Carl Rosamond feels organic and has been handled brilliantly. The songs are polished but not too much of a sheen has been put on them to distract from the raw, realness on offer.
Our standout track here is 'This Is Love' (not to be confused with the title track.) It is a sublime piece of songwriting that sits proudly between other notable offerings such as 'Next Up' and 'Slowtime'. This is a very strong album and perfect for fans of introspective, rootsy rock. We'll end things with this quote from Jim Glennie, a founder member of iconic band James: “Wonderfully innovative and explorative. It is packed full of strong melodies and ideas. Exciting and unpredictable.” And who are we to argue.
